White Dove Releases By Sudbury Doves
Explaination of Release Costs
Our White Doves must be trained to fly home from many sites within the Sudbury area
prior to any release. Before they can be flown from events and successfuly return to
their home loft they must be bred from birds with strong homing instinct's, trap trained,
compass trained, range trained and distance trained.
Several pairs of doves are needed to keep a genetically
healthy flock and every few years new breeders must be added to the gene pool in order to
avoid lowering the over all quality and homing skills level.
The Costs
Our yearly costs to effectively maintain a White Dove Release Business currently sits at about $2300.00 a year to feed, house, and keep in good health, our doves. Add the cost of a single year round part time employee to feed the doves and clean the the lofts. A mear hour a day at $10 per hour adds another $3650.00 for a total of $5950.00 a year. This employee is also required to train young doves each spring and re-train the older doves. Adding aprox seven more hours a week in labour. Plus one or two hours to perform each release. Our total is now almost $7000.00. Our birds are our feathered Employees. We value each greatly so we would never think of flying them without adequate training or nutrition. We maintain
enough fully trained beautiful young Doves so that only one flight per day would ever be
required of an Employee. We would need twenty three, three bird releases a year ($200 x 35 = $6,900) just to break even. We do dove releases for the love of the doves and the joy of seeing others smile. Doves and smiles seem priceless.
Proper breeding and training of pure white homing doves is not without it's costs but it's worth every penny as they will make your event a beautiful one. What started for us as a hobby borne out of a love for Doves has been refined and continues to grow so that we may share with you the wonders of Snow White Doves in flight!
